Data Retrieval

If your computer fails you may not have lost all your valuable personal data stored on the hard disc. It may be possible to recover some or all of it depending on the problem. Remember it is always a good idea to keep regular backups. There are several methods and we can advise you.

If your computer fails there are usually 3 options:

1. Standard - This is when the hard disc is OK but another part of the computer has failed.
We can remove data and transfer it onto a CD, DVD or another hard disc drive.

2. Special -The hard disc is not working correctly e.g. FAT/NTFS partition or software is corrupt.
We use very specialist software to recover some or all of your data. This is usually very
successful.

3. Recovery Specialist
- If the hard disc has totally
failed then we can send the hard drive away where it is taken apart in a clean room (Laboratory).  The data may then be recovered but it's not guaranteed. This option can be expensive and only you can decide if the data is important enough. Usually only businesses want to do this in order to recover critical data.

We can either transfer the data onto a CD or straight onto the new computers hard disc.
You may also have software applications that you need installing onto your new computer.
Computer Support (Nottingham) Ltd - PC Doctor can install this onto your new computer subject to software compatibility and that you have licensed software.  For example, software that worked on Windows 98 may not work on Windows XP.

"© Photographer: David Coleman | Agency: Dreamstime.com"Data Destruction We can destroy all data on your hard drive by performing a number of security wipes or we can totally destroy the drive and dispose of it safely for you.

In these days of identity theft it is important that any details left on
your old computer hard drive is destroyed before you dispose of it.
This could be bank details, passwords, in fact any record that is kept
on a computer.  It is not good enough just to delete records as they
can be recovered fairly easily should the hard drive get into the wrong hands. Lots of old computer end up going abroad to various countries.  Don't let your important personal data be stolen.

If you think the hard disc has a fault do not FORMAT the drive.  Also do not keep stopping and starting the computer as it could cause more damage and make it impossible to recover data.
System recovery CD's supplied with your computer usually FORMAT the hard drive before re-installing the operating
system (Windows) and this WILL remove ALL data from the
hard drive.
